In Izlude, enter the Swordman Guild on the west side of town (izlude 52, 138). Talk to the Swordman NPC in the center room behind the desk (izlude_in 74, 172), then the guard to the west. This guard will transfer you to a new room.
Talk to the guard named Test Hall Staff in the room to initiate the test. You have 10 minutes to complete the test.
First Map: A simple map. Just walk to the other side. If you fall you will be sent back to the beginning.
Second Map: This map involves two parallel bridges. Take your time and be careful not to fall off. You don't have to hold the mouse button down to walk.
Third Map: Similar to the first map except for the upper and lower levels. The lower level has a darker color than the upper level. Take your time and click carefully to get to the lower level. At the point where there is a gap in the top level, simply click on the lower level, and you will jump down. Then do the same to get back up.
Upon traversing the three maps and their checkpoints, talk to Mae in the last room to finish the test.
After exiting the test maps, speak to the large Swordman in the main room to become a Swordman.
Head to Alberta and enter the Merchant Guild in the southwest corner (alberta 36, 42). Inside talk to the Merchant, "Chief Mahnsoo" behind the desk to sign up to become a Merchant.
He will ask you to pay a fee of 1,000 Zeny before beginning the quest. You can pay half (500z) before and half (500z) after the quest if you lack the funds. You will also be given a serial number and destination. Do not forget them! The serial number is randomly chosen between one of these:

The destination is one of the following:
Head down into the warehouse and speak with the warehouse supervisor (alberta_in 28, 29). You must the enter the serial number as well as the destination of the parcel. The supervisor will give you a parcel even if you enter the wrong serial number and/or destination, but the receiving NPC will not accept it, thus requiring the player to start over.
Deliver the parcel to the appropriate NPC. You will receive a Receipt from them if step 3 was done correctly.
Return to Alberta and present the supervisor with the receipt, then speak with Chief Mahnsoo again to become a Merchant.
Head off to the Pyramids, which is north-west of Morroc.
At the pyramid (58,159), enter, and head for the middle of the map to the Thief Guild (90,105).
Once inside, follow the hallway down and take the left gate (90,115). In here you will see two NPCs that will guide you through the quest.
Talk to the one closest to the portal. She will ask you a few questions, then instruct you to find an "Irrelevant Man" somewhere outside the Pyramid (141, 125) in order to steal mushrooms from a nearby mushroom farm.
At the farm, kill the mushrooms and collect the mushrooms that drop. Aggressive Fabres and Chonchons (and Spores, but they're not aggresive) protect the farm, so you may want to avoid them. Your mission is to collect at least mushrooms worth of 25 points.

Note: If you die, you can talk to Mr. Irrelevant to return to the farm as many times as needed.
After collecting a sufficient amount of Mushrooms, head back to Thief Guild.
Talk to NPC farthest from the warp portal. He will count your mushrooms and if you have enough points, he will promote you to a Thief.
Head to the Archer Guild (pay_arche 143, 163) in the Archer Village north of Payon.
Talk to the Archer Guildsman (payon_in02 64, 71). You will be told to collect different type of Trunks for a minimum of 25 points. There are 4 types of Trunks:

The mage job quest NPC is located in Geffen in the northwest building (geffen 63, 177).
Once inside, talk to the girl by the blackboard. She will tell you what solution number you need. The solution number you get determines what items you need and what you need to input in to the mixing machine. You can look up the ingredients you need at the book shelf located inside of the same room.
Note: The catalyst item isn't needed, it is just a selection from the mixing machine list.

Note: Milk can be obtained in Prontera at the Milk Vendor (prontera 73, 140) for 25z.
The MageJobChangeSolution.png Payon Solution is found in the Payon Archer Village (the Archer Village is accessible through the top right portal of Payon).
The NPC, named Dollshoi, is located at (pay_arche 122, 100).
The MageJobChangeSolution.png Morroc Solution is found in the Pyramids map located in the north west corner of Morroc.
The NPC, named Ponka-Hontas can be found at (moc_ruins 91, 150).
After obtaining all of the ingredients, mix them in the the mixing machine in the center of the room back at the Mage Guild. Make sure to double check the ingredients, catalyst, and mixing code. If a mistake is made at this time, all of the items will have to be gathered again.
Once the Unknown Solution is made talk to the main quest NPC again. If you give her the correct solution, she will change your job to Mage.
Once you talk to the Ascetic, you will be saved at their location. This means that if you die or use a Butterfly Wing, you will return to the NPC's spot instead of your previous save point.
2a. Mother Marthilda in Morroc: Use the Kafra teleport service to go to Morroc, and go out the exit to the north. You will then be on Sograt Desert 07. The NPC is located in the northwestern corner of the map (moc_fild07 41, 355).
2b. Father Yosuke in East Geffen: Use the Kafra teleport service to warp to Geffen and walk 2 maps to the East to locate the NPC on Prontera Field 00. It is also possible to reach this NPC by traveling 1 map West, 1 map North, and 1 map West from Prontera. The NPC is located in the center of the map (prt_fild00 208, 218).
2c. Father Rubalkabara in East Prontera: The Ascetic to the East of Prontera is located in the northeastern corner of Prontera Field 03. There is a Choco on the map and it is aggressive. It should be avoided. The NPC is located near the entrance to St. Capitolina Abbey (prt_fild03 365, 255).
